From the recording How All This Will Change
Orbits is another song based directly on experience. Several years ago we had a joyous family gathering for the wedding of our youngest son and his lovely wife. We rented a big farmhouse and on the property was a circular labyrinth from stones half buried in the field. One morning my oldest granddaughter, then five, and I ran the labyrinth and this captures my thoughts at the time.
Lyrics
Orbits
Hey, you ready? Looks like its gonna shine
See the banners waving, Zen colors in a line
The stones are resting in the field, a labyrinth of time
Look back in half a century, will you hold this dear?
Will you still remember this morning light,
And the wildflowers growing in this field?
We must look strange out here, racing single file
And if they’re watching from the house, I’ll bet we made them smile
But they can’t see these silent stones, calling out our line
Just think in half a century, you may hold this dear,
You may still remember this morning light,
And the wildflowers growing in this field
Maybe later we’ll head inside but now I’ll watch you run
Little orbits, ‘round and ‘round, then start again, flying in the morning sun
Look back in half a century, it must be hazy now,
But if you’re still a moment, you might just see the circled stones,
And the wildflowers in this field
Hey, you ready? Looks like its gonna shine
The stones are resting in the field with no regard for time
