From the recording How All This Will Change
Wild One tells a fictional story of a girl caught in a tough family environment, yearning to break out. In my imagined story she does forge her own path and eventually becomes a caring mother herself.
Lyrics
Wild One
She’d wait outside the store,
Lookin’ for a friendly one,
Mohawk in a backpack, on the run
Don’t even think of more,
You’re gonna get what you deserve,
Like a pickup on a drunken winter curve
The future’s only got one door,
For the people with instructions,
How to leave all this destruction behind
They said she’s a wild one --- it’s just a little rain
A wild one --- low moan of a western train
A wild one --- freedom’s not that far away
Summer knows it’s time is near, s
So it leaves you in disguise
Like the things you say but never seem to hear
The exodus is here,
Goal posts on an autumn night,
Runnin’ from that eerie light alone
They said she’s a wild one --- she’s emptying her pockets
A wild one --- she’s waitin’ on a rocket
A wild one --- the stars aren’t so far away
Heaven’s only got one door,
For the people with direction
And a mother’s kind protection
She’s emptying her pockets
She’s waitin’ on a rocket
The stars aren’t so far away
